The Art of Calm

This is how you do it:
First, get yourself still, very still,
quiet as a cat with its eyes
and as open.

Find a body of water,
facilitate the return to animal.
(See, it’s the human in the way—
be wordless and let heart speak, let heart listen.)

Chatter until the froth runs clear
then let silence have a turn.
Write if you have to.

Read with punctuation:
comma, pause;
period, pause pause.

How else can the One you reflect
be seen clearly in the rippled surface
of daily soul?

You must smooth those feathers to liquid silver:
Trouble slides away in the tide,
and that face, those eyes,
meet yours in the mirror.
